Schengen certificate

Planning to travel?

If, as a Dutch patient, you wish to use cannabis as a medicine while travelling abroad, you will need to have one of the following documents with you:

  • Travel to a Schengen country
If you are travelling to a Schengen country the Healthcare Inspectorate can issue you with a Schengen Certificate.
The Schengen Certificate is valid for a maximum of 30 consecutive days. If you will be travelling for longer than 30 days you will need two Schengen Certificates, covering two consecutive periods.

Allow plenty of time for your application to be processed.

  • Travel outside the Schengen area
If you are travelling to a country outside the Schengen area, contact the ambassy or consulate of the country in question. If you have a doctor’s certificate you can ask the embassy or consulate for permission to take the medicinal cannabis with you.

Allow plenty of time for your application to be processed.

WARNING: You may be prosecuted if you travel abroad without the necessary certificate(s). Some countries have very severe penalties for the illegal possession of narcotic drugs!
